René Herbst
René Herbst (1891-1982) was born in Paris, he was one of the most interesting French designers of the period between the two World Wars. Architect and decorator, in the 20s he was renamed “man of steel” for he has been the first to use steel in furniture. Up until then, steel was considered an industrial material.
He designed very modern pieces of furniture: among the most famous ones, there are the chairs with seat and backrest with elastic laces and black cotton.
